Rangers have been linked with adding a new striker in recent weeks and one name in particular keeps popping up, reports suggesting that Ross Wilson has even registered our interest.

As with most transfers though, it usually comes down to money. Either how much the player wants or, how much the club wants in terms of transfer fee and it would appear as though the latter is the major stumbling block for any potential bid for Sunderland’s Ross Stewart.

After it was revealed that the 26-year old has had a £10million price tag placed on his head, it’s safe to say that we won’t be in the running for his signature with Alan Hutton telling Football Insider that it is a price Rangers simply won’t pay:

“I think it is expensive.

“There is no getting away from that. For Rangers to pay £10m for one player, at this moment, seems unrealistic.

“I think it will depend on what happens with the likes of [Alfredo] Morelos and [Ryan] Kent in the January transfer window.

“It looks like Beale can probably get the best out of Morelos, he knows him well.

“He has been back in the team, scored a goal. Will he stay? He will have to wait and see but I think £10m would be out of Rangers’ budget at this moment in time.“

“Expensive” is an understatement. At 26, there would be no sell on value spending that sort of money and Stewart wouldn’t be ahead of Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe or Antonio Colak in terms of quality – on a free transfer maybe, but there is no chance of us spending £10m on a back up.

Thankfully, it would appear that we have a wider scouting network now and that we will be casting our net beyond these shores. We picked up Morelos and Colak for less than £3m combined. There are bargains to be had if you look hard enough, just not in England’s Championship.
