Leicester City winning the Premier League, Arbroath gaining promotion to the Premiership and Aaron Ramsey signing a permanent deal, all of these would have similar odds of happening at one point and yet there is always a chance, as Claudio Ranieri proved a few years ago.

Rangers are believed to have first refusal for the Wales international midfielder and yet his astronomical wages at Juventus surely makes any deal impossible?

Speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton reckons that it is a transfer that could happen but that there is a lot that could happen between now and the end of the season:

“I think there’s a lot of variables in this situation.

“It ticks all the boxes at the moment as Rangers are only paying a portion of his wages. Ramsey can come in, get the football he needs to get firing again and get back into that Wales squad. He’ll then see where it takes him in the summer.

“If he sets the league alight and has an incredible rest of the season, then maybe he’ll look to move on somewhere else. Rangers will be looking for an incredible deal, but it’s all going to come down to figures.

“What he’s on now is way outside the ballpark, so unless there’s a deal to be done – you really can’t see it happening in the summer. We’ll have to wait and see.”

After a few years in Serie A and even longer in the Premier League with Arsenal, I don’t think Ramsey will be short of a bob or two, he also – if he does well with Rangers – won’t be short of offers to return to England.

He wouldn’t be the first player to fall in love with the club and want to stay but, as Hutton rightly says, it all comes down to the figures – what Juventus would demand for a transfer fee, and what the player would want as a salary.

Getting him on loan was one thing, getting him in permanently would surprise even the most optimistic of Rangers fans.
