Rangers have approached Salih Özcan of Cologne, who is out of contract at the end of the season – according to Kicker magazine in Germany. 

Özcan is a German U21 international with 11 caps under his belt to date, who is currently with the rest of the squad at the EURO 2021 tournament in Hungary and Slovenia.

Challenge

Described as a ‘box-to-box midfielder’, the 23-year old comes with significant experience and pedigree have amassed 28 appearances in the Bundesliga, this season alone.

In what was a bruising campaign for the North Rhine-Westphalia based club, they only guaranteed their top flight status courtesy of a second leg playoff victory over Holstein Kiel.

In their report, the respected, established Kicker outlet included:

“Salih Özcan’s contract with 1. FC Köln expires at the end of June. An extension failed.”

“The U-21 international is looking for a new challenge for the next step in his career.”

“Scotland’s champions, the Glasgow Rangers, have the Cologne in their sights.”
