Rangers outcast Joe Dodoo produced another impressive performance for Blackpool in League One this weekend, scoring his fifth goal of the season for the Seasiders.

The 23-year-old has struggled to cement his place in Terry McPhillips’ side this season, but is now on the brink of being a favoured choice after his latest display against Burton Albion.

He’s now scored four in his last four matches and was singled out for praise after Saturday’s match.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, McPhillips said of his attacker:

Joe missed a lot of games because we didn’t feel he was doing well enough but he got his chance again, like they’re all going to get a chance again with being part of a squad, and he’s took it with both hands.

Second-half he was phenomenal.

Dodoo made 25 appearances for Rangers in the ill-fated 2016/17 season but has mostly spent his time out on loan since then, first at Charlton and now at Blackpool, both times in League One.

He has his work cut out to prove himself to manager Steven Gerrard, but his contract at Ibrox doesn’t expire at 2020, so he still has time to show he can improve enough to be included in the first-team squad.

Bursts of form like this one will certainly not do his chances any harm. Let’s hope he can keep up the scoring!
