At Vital Rangers we’ve been pretty open from the outset after The Daily Mail claimed that Rangers were eyeing up a potential £15million bid for Sheffield United striker, Oli McBurnie.

A good player? Yes. A £15m one? Not for us. Certainly not for a club such as ours who will be counting the pennies rather than splashing the cash for a player who is valued at over £10m. Something that former Ger, Alan Hutton, agrees with as he explains why – despite being a good player – he can’t see the Scotland international heading north any time soon, as told to Football Insider:

“He’s got everything you need to be a very good striker.

“He’s had a tough year at Sheffield United, confidence was low. It’s as simple as that.

“As teams, you have seasons like that. I just wonder if him staying in the Championship and building that confidence will help him.

“I can’t see him going to Rangers. They were talking about £15million at one point. I do not see Rangers paying that for any player.

“He’s not come off the best of seasons so it would be very difficult for any Rangers man to pay that kind of money.

“He’s a brilliant player when he’s firing on all cylinders. Rangers won’t pay £15million for anyone.

“We’ll see what happens, stranger things have happened.”

The Blades will want to recoup as much of the £20m fee they paid to Swansea as possible which almost automatically rules Rangers out, it’s just not the type of transfer we will make any time soon when we have adopted a model that is designed to make us self sufficient – spending the bulk of any money earned from European football is not the best way to go about things.

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

If we sell players we will no doubt reinvest some of the money brought in, this is why we have the likes of Ross Wilson in place, so that we can recruit players as good – or better – than McBurnie without paying Premier League prices.
