With the curtains drawn on an exhausting season, thoughts now turn to who might remain at Ibrox for next season’s attempt to reclaim our Scottish Premiership title.

As well as those with just a year left on their contracts, there is a list of veterans who will also be needing to make decisions on their respective futures, one of them being the evergreen Steven Davis who played in both finals this past week.

The 37-year old is, understandably, no longer as influential as he once was, however, he was still trusted by Giovanni van Bronckhorst to make an impact in important fixtures, however, he is unlikely to be considered as a regular starter next season because of the players we already have and those coming through.

Other clubs are of course free to speak to the Northern Ireland legend and it appears as though Motherwell are front of the queue, according to The Daily Record, a club not usually known for the type of football that Davis excels in but he would be a wise head for the young players that they have in their squad to learn from.

Davis would also have a better chance of playing regularly and there would be nowhere near the demands of playing for Rangers, not just physically but mentally – after 65 games and everyone of them a must win, it can take it’s toll on even the strongest of individuals.

He won’t be short of offers, even for a player of his age, there are few in Scottish football capable of dictating the tempo of a game and with his passing range, if it is just for a year, any club would do well to secure his services.
