Three points, pressure and no injuries, all we want against Motherwell

It feels like ages since we last played, given how accustomed we are to playing mid-week European games, this must be what it feels like to be a Celtic fan.

Motherwell’s chief executive Alan Burrows this week demonstrated something that is rare in Scottish football, common sense. Coming to the conclusion that moving our fixture from Sunday to Saturday could help Rangers in our attempts to reach a first European final since 2008, a decision that he felt could benefit his own team in the long run – it will never catch on.

The irony being that if Motherwell manage to scrape into a European place in the league they will – rightly – celebrate, the same fans that have been criticising their chief executive for agreeing to our request.

Most of this week will have been spent doing recovery work for the next run of fixtures, the team isn’t going to get any fitter at this stage of the season and for all that the squad is in decent nick, if there are any additions to an injury list that already includes Kemar Roofe, Filip Helander, Ianis Hagi, Alfredo Morelos and Aaron Ramsey, we could be in a bit of bother.

What this does mean though is that we should get to see some of the academy players being given more minutes, although this is more likely to be off the bench given that we can still do our bit in keeping the pressure on Celtic at the top, an away trip to Ross County is never a pleasurable experience, after all, you never know.

We might see a similar tactic to that of St Mirren away, start with a strong XI then rotate with players like Ryan Jack and Leon Balogun potentially sitting this one out, there is no point risking them if there are others who can come in.

Momentum is a difficult thing to get in football and we are up against it with the players that are missing but we should be buoyant after two hugely important wins for the club, three points against Motherwell would be a great way to take us into another massive week and one that could see us potentially create history.
