Rangers right to be raging at Morelos treatment

Rangers must be absolutely fuming.

It’s bad enough not having your best players available for the biggest game of the season but, it is different when they are injured or suspended, there is nothing you can do about that.

However, when the SPFL rearranged the league’s biggest game during a time when there are World Cup qualifying fixtures, you only have to look back a few years and to the words of Barry Hearn – if they worked for him, they’d all be fired.

Stewart Robertson has spoken in the past about the league’s governing body underselling our game – or not selling it at all on some occasions – but this is a new low.

When Alfredo Morelos returned to goalscoring form there was always a risk that he would be called up by Colombia but for Reinaldo Rueda to not even select El Bufalo for a place on the bench is just plain disrespectful, that they have now gone seven competitive fixtures with scoring a goal makes it even worse, surely the Rangers striker deserves his shot when the others are performing so poorly?

Rueda would have known after the last training session what his match day squad was going to be, why not allow Morelos to get a flight back to Glasgow? I’m pretty sure the club would have put on a private jet for him to make sure he got back in plenty of time.

Of course we will never know the full story but our hierarchy should be livid with Rueda and the Colombian FA, after just nine minutes in the whole summer during the Copa America, Morelos himself must be getting pretty sick of constantly travelling to the other side of the world and getting nothing in return, regardless of how much pride he has in representing his country.
