Rangers commercial team has been working flat out over the last 18-months in an attempt to offset the black hole in the club’s finances caused by Covid-19.

There has been a notable difference in the professionalism of the club off the pitch and we are finally on the right tracks to becoming a leading light in European football once again.

Not only have they seen a dramatic in crease in the number of official partners, but with the introduction of the MyGers membership scheme, fans from all over the globe have been able to contribute to Steven Gerrard’s success with the money raised going straight to the transfer kitty – something that football finance expert, Kieran Maguire, feels will only grow if qualification for the Champions League group stages can be secured.

In an interview with Football Insider, he said:

“What they will be looking to do with this is expand if they have success in Europe.

“Both Rangers and Celtic have significant fan bases outside of the United Kingdom.

“If Rangers do have success in the Champions League, supporters not just outside of Glasgow but outside of the UK might be more inclined to join something like this.

“It will increase their attachment to the club seeing them play big teams on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

“Getting into the group stages is absolutely critical.”

With 29,000 members already, this equates to around £1.5million a year if they all renew, however, Maguire is right, the Champions League opens up a whole new market and, with a global icon of Gerrard’s stature at the club, it is something that should be taken advantage of.
