Rangers midfielder Ovie Ejaria is targeting the top position in the Scottish Premiership next week and has real belief that Steven Gerrard’s side can win the title this season.

The Gers have a big opportunity to take the top spot in the table when we face Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday, with Celtic pre-occupied by their Scottish League Cup final against Aberdeen.

Three points would put us a point ahead of Brendan Rodgers’ outfit, albeit having played a game more.

Ejaria reckons it’s a chance to show everyone we’re serious about winning the title this season.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Liverpool loanee said:

If we win next week, it would be a big confidence boost for us.

Could we stay there? Yes, definitely. But we have to take each game and use the confidence from each match.

There are a lot of top players here and everyone is focused. That’s our goal. As I said, we will take each game as it comes because it is a long season.

It’s close at the top. We know Celtic are a very good side and we’re a very good side as well, so we’re confident we can do really well. I’m not too sure how they’ll see it, but we see it as a big opportunity next weekend.

Everyone is really focused and our main goal is to try to win the league.

Of course, this has been said before by a conveyor belt of talent in previous seasons, but our prospects do feel different this season for a variety of reasons.

Firstly we’re taking great confidence from our European run, showing we can go toe-to-toe with quality sides across the continent. That has allowed us to find a new winning mentality. With players like Alfredo Morelos in fantastic form too, we have a goalscorer that can fire us towards major honours.

Celtic have a devilish set of fixtures in December which we must try and capitalise on before the big derby at the end of the year. The final stepping stone towards a serious title challenge is defeating the Hoops in one-on-one encounters.

If we can take a league lead into 2019, then anything can happen come May.
