Rangers will have to move fast if they are to land in-demand Algerian international Zinedine Ferhat, according to the latest reports coming out of France.

The 28-year old Nimes winger is attracting a lot of interest after his side were relegated from Ligue 1 with a player of his calibre unlikely to want to spend a season in the second tier of French football, he also has just a year left on his current contract.

However, after Rangers appeared to nudge their way to the front of the queue following Strasbourg’s unconvincing attempts to land the 13-cap star, Glasgow Live has claimed that Marseille have now turned their attentions towards him with French journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter originally responsible for the revelation.

It’s the one position that Steven Gerrard has never fully been able to convince Rangers fans that he has got right, we frequently see the likes of Ianis Hagi or Kemar Roofe playing off the right-hand side and more recently Scott Wright adding a similar type of threat to Ryan Kent on the other side.

Yes, we don’t play with traditional wingers but when we counter attack or have a bit more space, having a player who is comfortable with the ball at their feet and driving at opponents, as well as posing a goal threat, would be a useful addition to the squad.

Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones were cheap punts but they clearly weren’t good enough, Ferhat is proven in one of Europe’s best leagues for a side that got relegated, in a team that dominates possession and chances, you’d back him to add to his tally of six goals and 10 assists from last season – but Ross Wilson will have to be at his persuasive best if he is to get any deal over the line given that one of French football’s biggest hitters is now in the running.
