Rangers will play Hibernian in the semi-final of the Premier Sports League Cup.

The draw was made on Thursday evening following the conclusion of the quarter final ties with Celtic and Hibs booking their place in the last four, joining Rangers and St Johnstone who secured their progression on Wednesday.

In the other last four clash, Celtic will face St Johnstone.

Last season the Gers experienced quarter-final heartache in both domestic cup competitions but as expected, they have gone one better already and are on the path to end the cup drought under Steven Gerrard.

Redemption

This season’s League Cup is the seventh chance for Gerrard’s Rangers to taste glory at Hampden and they will be determined to do so.

The return to the national stadium will be the first appearance at the Mount Florida venue since the painful 2019 final when Rangers dominated their Old Firm rivals but couldn’t put the ball in the net.

A red-card for Celtic and a missed Alfredo Morelos penalty was compounded by Chris Jullien’s winner for Neil Lennon’s team.

Incidentally, this was the last time that the Parkhead side have defeated Rangers – almost two years ago!

Following the title win last term, this Rangers team and the supporters are very hungry for more success.

When will the semi-final ties be played?

The games are set to take place on the weekend of November 20 and 21 – both will be televised live on Premier Sports.

Rangers will lose a scheduled home weekend fixture, with the Premiership game against St Johnstone falling victim to the cup progression.

A similar scenario will unfold if the Gers make it through to the final, which takes place one week before Christmas on 19th December.
