On the eve of the new Premiership season, Rangers title winning squad have been labelled as “mediocre” by  a Scottish football broadcaster.

Peter Martin of online channel PLZ Soccer made the claim as a point of reference in an article highlighing Celtic’s latest continued failings in Europe with further questions pointed at the Parkhead board.

Now, that’s for others to worry about but 2020/21 Rangers just an above average, middle of the road team? Really?

Not a chance.

To besmirch the successful Ibrox side in that way is very disrespectful and way off the mark.

In the piece, Peter Martin was making a point that Rangers won the league by spending a fraction of the amount that they should have had to, given the gulf that was in place a few years ago:

“It is an act of gross negligence and complacency from a board that should have had their club so far out of sight that Rangers would have had to have spent millions to bridge the gap.”

“In truth, they’ve managed to spend a fraction of Celtic’s budget and won the league with one of the most mediocre sides in the Ibrox club’s history of title winning teams.”

Merit

With an undefeated league season that was won on the 7th March, Rangers burst through the 100 points barrier as well as a massive 26 cleans sheets through the Premiership campaign and only 13 goals conceded.

There was nothing mediocre whatsoever about the club’s 55th championship, to state otherwise is nonsense.

Yes, our rivals stagnation over the last 18 months has been a factor but the single most important thing last season was Rangers consistency in winning games as well as the solidity in defence which accumulated all of those clean sheets.

Worthy winners, deserved winners, and winners in style – now it’s time to go for more!
