“He’s got to send him off” – Boyd makes Gers referee howler claim

|

All we want in Scottish football is consistency, nothing more, nothing less.

Cast your mind back to the Old firm derby where Kevin Clancy gave Celtic a penalty for Niko Katic having a hold of Christopher Jullien’s shirt, that he then refused to give one in Rangers favour for an identical – if not worse – foul on Joe Aribo in the same game perfectly highlights the problem with officiating in the SPFL.

Now, after Alfredo Morelos was fouled in the first-half against Dundee the conspiracy theorists were at it again, however, they should only be referred to the previously mentioned incident where they were declaring it a stonewaller – they’re a confused bunch after all. A defender pulling an attacks shirt is a penalty, regardless of who they play for surely?

The irony is, it wasn’t the initial decision that the officials got wrong but that no further action was taken, as Kris Boyd explained on Sky Sports:

“There is a little tug there, but it is soft there is no getting away from it.

“The thing after that for me is once Bobby Madden makes the decision that it is a penalty kick, he’s got to send him off because he is stopping a clear and obvious goalscoring opportunity with no attempt to play the ball.

“And that’s just in the rule book.”

Boyd is, of course, right but why let accuracy and facts get in the way of a good conspiracy eh?

As the former Ger says, it is a soft penalty but it is 100% correct, it’s just frustrating that a professional referee didn’t have the courage to implement the laws of the game correctly.
