How do we solve a problem like Kemar Roofe.

Pound for pound he is the best goalscorer at the club, a goal every two games – 28 in 56 to be precise – and one every 108 minutes this season is the sort of return we would have been looking for when we signed him – we just can’t keep him fit for sustained periods.

The frustrating thing is that Roofe looked to have put the problems of last season behind him, we knew he had missed a lot of games and didn’t have a proper season so expectations were tempered.

To make things worse, it was on international duty with Jamaica that he picked up his first injury of the season, I get the impression that Roofe isn’t blessed with a body that rehabs well – some people are naturally quick healers where others struggle to get back to full fitness.

In a formation that lends itself to a striker who comes alive in and around the box and thrives on a good supply, Giovanni van Bronckhorst must be gutted to not be able to select a player who could really lead the line for Rangers.

Alfredo Morelos has been on fire recently but he has still missed a lot of chances, chances that Roofe has a better conversion rate of making.

Gio will want to bring his own players in, and if the prognosis isn’t good, it could well be that  we start looking for a striker who is available more often – and don’t rule out a recall for Cedric Itten in just a few days time.
