Rangers beat off Premier League interest and win race to sign up “fabulous” forward

|

Rangers fans have been handed a massive boost with the news that Kai Kennedy is set to sign a new contract at the club, however, rather than being given the chance to fill in for the injured Kemar Roofe, he is poised to head out on loan again, as reported by The Athletic.

There has been talk in the last few months, mainly from Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss John Robertson, about the Scotland youth cap’s future with encouraging signs that he was set to put pen to paper on an extension to his current deal that ends in the summer.

Despite him being our player, it is something of a coup to persuade him to stay with interest from some of European football’s super clubs previously being claimed in the media, especially when you consider that he appeared to be heading out the door in the summer after being dumped from the first-team training squad.

After impressing in the Highlands he is now expected to try his hand closer to home and head to Fife in the shape of Raith Rovers, a club he tormented earlier in the season, Robertson had been hoping to keep the 18-year old but perhaps a move closer to home will aid his development further.

Is Kennedy ready to step into the first-team?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It can be easily forgotten how young he still is and that he has impressed in a physical league is encouraging for the future, he could follow a similar path to that of Stephen Kelly who progressed from the Championship last year to the Premiership this season and continues to look the part.

Hopefully Kennedy  – once hailed as “fabulous” by his gaffer – now sees a clear pathway to the first-team and we no longer have to supplement the squad with players like Greg Stewart, Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones, seeing “one of our own” make a telling contribution would be the icing on what is proving to be a very sweet cake at the moment.
