Rangers have a few contract issues coming up in the twelve months but the most pressing is that of Kai Kennedy with the talented 18-year old soon to be free to speak to other clubs to discuss a pre-contract move.

Currently on loan at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the Scotland youth cap has been informed that if he wants to stay in the Highlands for the remainder of the season then he has to extend his deal with the Light Blues, according to John Robertson, his current boss.

The Daily Record has reported on Robertson’s claims in which he declares that he would love to keep Kennedy as part of his squad:

“We have spoken to Rangers and they have given us the scenario they see going forward.

“His future with them, first and foremost, is the key thing that has to be discussed between Rangers and the player.

“Until that is sorted we have to wait and see, as he is a Rangers player.

“They have told us if he signs a new deal they are quite happy for him to remain here this season.

“Until he does that, it is up for grabs.

“That hasn’t been done at the moment, so we will just crack on for the next couple of games before contacting Rangers again to find out what the situation is.”

There has been encouraging news recently about Kennedy potentially staying at Rangers when it had looked as though he was heading out the door, particularly after some less than subtle comments from Steven Gerrard in the summer.

Securing one of our most talented youngsters for another few years would certainly be a bonus especially with the rumours of elite level interest in him, yes, he has a long way to go before he can be deemed ready to be a regular member of the first-team squad but if he commits to the club, he should at least be given a chance to show what he can do.
