Rangers have been linked with a few midfielders this summer both at home and abroad with one name resurfacing in a report made by The Scottish Sun.

Juninho Bacuna is a long-term target having first been target 12-months ago, however, after having his Huddersfield Town contract extended by another year, the option to pick him up on a free transfer disappeared and Ross Wilson will have to be patient if he is to return to his former club for a potential bargain.

The Sun though claims that this hasn’t the Gers transfer supremo off and that we are now considering a move:

“Rangers could be ready to reignite their interest in Huddersfield star Juninho Bacuna.

SunSport understands the 24-year attacking midfielder has emerged as an Ibrox signing target.

“The Dutch-born Curacao international is under contract with the Championship outfit until next summer after they took up an option to extend his deal at the end of last season.

“But Gers recruitment chiefs have complied a dossier of scouting reports on Bacuna with the club now seriously considering a move.”

Bacuna would be a good signing, especially on either a reduced fee or a pre-contract agreement, the former Dutch Under-21 international who now plays international football for Curacao has proven experience in the Eredivisie with Groningen and in the Premier League with his current club.

Valued at £4.5million he is well within our price range, even before you take into consideration his contract status – it may be that we have moved on from Joey Veerman, although they are different styles of player operating in similar areas of the pitch.

Who scored Rangers first ever goal under Steven Gerrard in EL qualification?

Another midfielder looks to be on the cards this summer, doubts over both Ryan Jack and Nnamdi Ofoborh mean that Steven Gerrard has been restricted already and won’t want that to continue, Stephen Kelly has been promoted to the first-team squad but it may be that he is looking for a more established and experienced option, especially for European football.

It’s a name that refuses to go away and a signing that would make a lot of sense both on and off the pitch, it’s also one that wouldn’t depend on players having to leave first – given the interest in Glen Kamara though, it may be that we are looking at his potential replacement right here.
