Jordan Jones is certainly making the most of his loan spell at Sunderland and has become an instant hit with both the fans and management team.

With two goals and four assists in under 500 minutes of competitive action, the Northern Ireland international is proving exactly what he is capable of and the sort of form he had just started to show for Rangers before the now infamous party that earned him a seven game SFA ban and end of his career at Ibrox.

It has now been reported that Jones is keen to stay at the Stadium of Light and if he is able to help Sunderland to get promoted it should make it a lot easier to get any deal done with Football Insider reporting that a £600,000 transfer fee would be enough to make the move permanent.

Jones’s time at Rangers is always going to be a case of “what might have been?” and the memory of a handful of performances that gave a glimpse of how good he could have been in a Light Blue shirt, he certainly shouldn’t be playing in League 1 anyway.

His performances against Midtjylland last season and Willem II this year in the Europa League typify what he can do against top level opposition, his pace on the counter attack and work rate were a huge asset but a series of on and off-field issues has seen him deemed surplus to requirements.

In Scott Wright, Steven Gerrard already looks to have found a reliable replacement, and if anything, a player with a higher ceiling in terms of how much better they could become under a coaching staff that has already overseen improvements in several members of the first-team squad, for Jones, he’ll only realise what he had once it’s gone.
