There is one bad thing – or good depending on your point of view – about being linked with a player from Peterborough United, you just know that Barry Fry is going to tell all and sundry every possible detail about any potential deal.

The Posh director of football gave us daily updates on Celtic’s failed pursuit of Ivan Toney last summer, much to our hilarity, but it is now our turn to be exposed as an interested party after it was revealed that Rangers have been keeping an eye on their latest prolific hitman – Jonson Clarke-Harris, as reported by The Daily Record.

Speaking to Peterborough Today, Fry gave an update on their in demand striker and who has been watching his latest performances, a hat-trick against Accrington Stanley amongst them:

“We want promotion this season so there’s no way we would have let him go. It was the same situation with Ivan Toney last season.

“We could have sold him in January, but we were never going to. The owners have done great to resist cashing in at a time when football clubs are struggling financially.

“Rangers have been to a lot of our matches this season and they were there on Saturday. Sheffield United were also there, but West Brom weren’t.

“I didn’t have a conversation about Jonson with any of them though.

“Like with Ivan, we don’t have a single concern that transfer talk will affect Jonson. He is single-minded and his focus is entirely on winning promotion with us.

“He’s a humble man who constantly gives the praise to his team-mates.”

As with any player, a lot will depend on what fee they are wanting. He only joined Peterborough in the summer as Toney’s replacement so they will be in no rush to sell him plus, if they do get promotion to the Championship it will certainly help their cause.

Toney himself has set the English second tier on fire this season and Rangers will be hoping that they can get in quick with the hope that Clarke-Harris can prove to be as much of a bargain.
