Rangers have been linked with a new striker with speculation likely to ramp up in the coming weeks and months over the future of Alfredo Morelos.

Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris is said to be a target and, speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton believes that the 27-goal man could be worth a punt.

“I’ll tell you what, they can find a striker, can Peterborough. They love a goalscorer. Unbelievable.

“For Ivan Toney to leave and his replacement to score 25 goals, that’s unbelievable. I think the thing we need to remember is that’s a good level of football.

“Some people might look at it, be a bit snobby over it and say: ‘Oh, that’s not the best.’ but we’ve played a lot of those teams throughout cup games, pre-season games, and they’re of a good standard.

“To be scoring that amount of goals at that level, I think anybody would be happy to see that link.

“I think a lot of it comes down to what’s going to happen with Morelos, if I’m totally honest. We all know the situation surrounding him and what has been said over the past couple of seasons.

“He’s kind of wanted to leave at certain times within that spell. However, if he does go, we can imagine it’s going to be for a decent sum of money. Then Rangers, rightly so, will be looking, scouring the market to try and find a replacement.

“If this guy can come up and score those goals, I think everybody will be more than happy.”

Ivan Toney has shown that the step up from League 1 to the Championship isn’t as big as it has been made out to be before with the impact he has had a Brentford and Celtic’s decision not to up their offer has certainly paid off for Rangers.

Who won last season's POTY?

Whether Clarke-Harris has the pedigree to replace Morelos and follow in Toney’s footsteps is another story, he has certainly scored a lot of goals but it will take an awful lot more than that to fill the hole left by the goal scoring genius that is El Bufalo.
