Rangers have reportedly joined city rivals, Celtic, in the chase for West Ham winger Grady Diangana – currently on loan at West Brom – according to The Glasgow Times.

The article claims that the Gers were interested in signing the 22-year old last summer but moved on to other targets, presumably Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo.

The stiffest opposition for his signature could come from the club he is currently playing for, the Baggies are sitting in the second automatic promotion place to the bright lights of the Premier League and are keen to secure the England Under-21 international’s services for next season, regardless of whether or not they go up.

Diangana – rated at £4m by Transfermarkt – is said to be interested in a move north with regular first team football his number one priority, Steven Gerrard will be hoping that the lure of European football would be enough to tempt him away from the top flight in English football.

With the transfer window now open in Scotland, speculation surrounding potential targets is only likely to increase and Diangana is the second name this week rumoured to be on the Gers gaffer’s radar.

Christian Maghoma – formerly of Tottenham Hotspur – has just left Polish club Arka Gdynia and with Nikola Katic expected to be out for much of the season, the towering centre-half would represent a sound piece of business, if the rumour is to be believed.

The Scottish Premiership season begins in just a couple of weeks with both Europa League campaigns taking place at the end of August, Gerrard will want the majority of his business conducted as early as possible as he sets out on what could be the most pressurised season in his managerial career.
