Every summer there is a transfer saga, last season it was Alfredo Morelos to Lille, the summer before that was Ryan Kent and whether or not he’d make his loan deal a permanent one but this summer it was one that didn’t go in our favour, however, it’s a transfer that might not yet be dead in the water.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Stuart Hodge believes that Joey Veerman could yet make the move to Ibrox from Heerenveen and following in the footsteps of Giovanni van Bronckhorsts who also signed for Rangers from the Eredivisie at a young age.

When asked if he thought that Gio’s arrival could see the transfer reignited he said:

“That one, yeah, potentially. But I think more so, that’s a market that van Bronckhorst will know well, that’s a market that’s affordable for Scottish clubs.”

Most Rangers fans accepted that when we failed to qualify for the Champions League, our hopes of signing Veerman disappeared, that our accounts showed a hefty loss will also not have gone unnoticed for those thinking that we will be opening the cheque book in January.

By having a Dutch coaching team in place, all it does is make our chances of signing the 23-year old midfielder marginally more likely, however, he would command a decent transfer fee and we would have to sell the likes of Glen Kamara first to make room in the squad and to free up funds.

I’ve no doubt that Veerman will remain on our radar and be a player of interest but we just aren’t in a position to sign him at present, but as we have seen over the last couple of weeks, things can change very quickly in football.
