After a report at the weekend claimed that Ianis Hagi was the subject of interest from both Aston Villa and Lyon, we have seen the reemergence of a rumour that will never go away.

With his dad being a local hero and having been born in Istanbul, growing up around the club, Hagi will always be considered a target for Galatasaray, with Sabah Spor, a sports news outlet in Turkey claiming that he is being lined up for a move in January.

Now, there is a small problem with this rumour. Galatasaray are broke. They currently have debts of around £170million and are far from in the right position to start spending the sort of sum that Hagi would command.

At 22-years old, he is only going to get better, we have seen his influence grow in the Rangers team since he joined, is physically stronger and now – under Giovanni van Bronckhorst – looks as though he is going to have a key role, the three chances he created against Sparta Prague an indication of what he is capable with a greater freedom to express himself.

There are certain rumours that can be easily dismissed and, despite the source being relatively sound on this one, it looks like it is more a case of wishful thinking rather than one we should be concerned about.
