Rangers kept hold of their key players in the transfer window with only a bid for Nathan Patterson from Everton being reported as concrete interest.

There has though been news of another potential move as revealed by Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr via allnigeriasoccr.com who, explained why Joe Aribo was late in turning up for international duty:

“We are ready, we are still missing two players or three (Aribo, Onuachu, Awaziem), they will arrive tonight or tomorrow.

“These players were concerned by transfer problems so they could not be here with us since yesterday (Tuesday).”

There has never been any stories linking Aribo with an exit from Ibrox so it will come as something as a surprise to Rangers fans to see that he could potentially have been out the door.

The 25-year old is valued at just under £6million on transfermarkt but Ross Wilson would be looking for a lot more than that for a player approaching his peak and with a skillset that allows him to play as a number 10, in midfield or at left-back without any noticeable dip in quality wherever he lines up.

This season, Aribo has been a key player given injuries to Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara’s European suspension, his flexibility allows Steven Gerrard to utilise him in any tactical plan be it attacking or one of containment – as seen in last week’s Old Firm victory where he was outstanding.

He’s not a player that we would want to lose, however, we can’t pick and choose who clubs bid for but, with two years left on his current contract, Ross Wilson should be looking to offer him something that reflects his status in the squad and his importance to the gaffer.
