Rangers have rejected a second bid for Nathan Patterson which could also be their last if further reports are accurate.

The Daily Mail, via Glasgow Live, claims that a fee of £8million has now been offered for the 19-year old defender but that it has been knocked back, a sure sign that we aren’t as desperate for money as some would have you believe.

Everton’s original £5m bid was rejected out of hand by the Gers without the offer even making it’s way as far as Steven Gerrard’s desk, the gaffer laughing when he was informed of the fee after the 4-2 win over Ross County in Dingwall.

The Toffees look as if they have moved on from Patterson, the Scotland cap who missed the weekend’s Old Firm derby because he had to isolate, proving to be too costly so they are now looking to tie up a loan move for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Who scored the winner in Sunday's first Old Firm of 2021/22?

Vital Rangers has already covered that if an eight-figure offer was made, then serious questions would have to be asked about Patterson’s future, it would be a huge blow to lose a player with such huge potential but James Tavernier is still first choice and likely to be around for a good few years yet – there wouldn’t be a desperate rush to replace a back-up, regardless of how good he might be.

The starting XI wouldn’t be any weaker and other areas could be strengthened with that sort of money, however, it doesn’t look like he will be heading anywhere soon in what is a real statement of intent from Ross Wilson towards wealthy Premier League teams who might be hoping to underpay for our best talent.
