Since Ross Wilson took the place of Mark Allen at Rangers in the sporting director’s office transfer rumours and speculative leaks have been reduced to almost zero which means that we have to look elsewhere to get our fix.

We’ve seen a few stories recently that have originated from overseas, the link with Xavi Simon coming from Spain and now, French media outlet Foot Mercato has revealed that Dundee United’s Cameroon international Jeando Fuchs is a target for the Light Blues – that the player himself is the one who has dropped our name into the mix is a pretty good indicator that we are interested:

“I am at the end of my contract in May. I’m waiting to see something concrete and see if I have a choice to make at that time. I am not in a hurry.

“There has been contact with Blackpool, Peterborough and Wigan. Stuttgart have taken information since the summer.

“There has been [contact] from Celtic and Rangers as well, but nothing more. A Premier League club as well. England would be good.”

The 24-year old defensive midfielder is an easy player to link us to given the profile of our squad and especially now that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is in charge, the role has changed ever so slightly in terms of the demands being placed on those in the middle of the park.

Who did GvB make his competitive Rangers debut against as a player?

Although he is a different type of player, it would make sense to see us go for Fuchs as a replacement in the squad for Glen Kamara should he be sold, that Nnamdi Ofoborh is still waiting for the green light to return to training isn’t a great sign, even then, he has missed a lot of time on the training pitch and probably won’t see any game time this season.

Fuchs is one of the better players outside of the Old Firm and being available on a pre-contract agreement in January just ticks another box, when money is tight, risk free signings are king and this would be as low risk as you could get.
