Talks continue for £12m man with Rangers interest revealed

|

Rangers will face a fight if they are to get any deal for Newcastle United’s Jacob Murphy over the line after the latest news coming out of the north east.

The Newcastle Chronicle claims that the Ibrox side aren’t the only interested party, however, the boyhood Magpies fan will take a lot of persuading to cross the border, if reports are to be believed.

Apparently the club aren’t worried about interest in the 26-year old with The Chronicle not known for getting these things wrong and claim that:

“Newcastle United are relaxed about Jacob Murphy’s contract situation – despite fresh reports of interest from Watford and Rangers.”

This follows on from the news that the £12million wide man has a year still to run on his current contract, despite various sources originally believing he had only signed a four-year deal at St James’s Park in 2017, Steve Bruce also has no intentions of letting him leave after reflecting on his performances this season – before he scored a vital goal in his side’s 2-1 over Burnley last weekend:

“I sincerely hope that we tie Jacob down.

“He’s played a big part in the season… I’ve been very, very pleased with him.”

The higher up the transfer market you go, in terms of quality, the more competition you are likely to face, however, Steven Gerrard can now point to a proven track record both domestically and on the continent when trying to persuade players to move to Scotland as well as the potential to play against Europe’s best in the Champions League – an opportunity unlikely to arise at Newcastle or Watford.
