Just as Michael Beale gets one or two players back fit, others seem to push the revolving door on the Auchenhowie treatment room wide open.

When Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell arrived in January, I’d doubt that the Gers gaffer’s plan was to have them starting together in the league cup final this weekend but that is a realistic possibility given our current injuries.

The only other option available to play alongside them is Glen Kamara. The Finland international has had a poor season overall, only showing flashes of what he is capable of such as PSV Eindhoven or Hearts away from home but he will have to be at his best on Sunday if he is selected.

Kamara remains a very saleable asset and, given his dip of form, many fans would be happy for him to be sold in the summer to allow for fresh investment in midfield, however, speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton reckons that the appointment of Beale will see him stick around:

“Before Michael Beale came in I would have said yes.

“I think at this moment in time I am swaying that he could stay. Obviously it depends on the offers.

“To bring a player like that in for £50,000, we were talking not that long about about selling him for millions. It is a great profit in that sense and that is what Rangers do at this moment in time.

“But I think under Beale he will be given a fair opportunity to go and show his stuff. He likes him and that is the main thing.

“He wants to build a team around these young, hungry players and I think he suits that profile at this moment as well.“

Beale might publicly profess his love for Kamara but he is also a realist and will know that if we receive a decent offer for the 27-year old, that he will be away.

Not only that but, with Raskin showing how a midfielder should be capable of playing for Rangers, Beale might well have a change of thinking in terms of who best fits his system and style of play and deem Kamara surplus to requirements – if we ever get everyone fit that is.
