There is a reason why Allan McGregor doesn’t get volunteered for media duties that often, he keeps his cards very close to his chest and doesn’t like giving much away, however, when he does speak, he can be good value for money.

McGregor, as a genuine contender Rangers greatest ever keeper, was clearly emotional at being inducted into the Hall of Fame and having his name forever etched on the honours board above the marble staircase, an individual award that he will always be proud of.

But, other than the trophies, are there any specific memories and saves that he reflects back on as being particularly special?

Being interviewed at Edmiston House by the Heart and Hand podcast team, McGregor opened up on a few of his big moments, not surprisingly, most of them are against Celtic. The whole interview is available on the Patreon site but these are his thoughts on his personal highlights to date:

“Ones that mean something probably.

“I don’t know, I think, there was one against Celtic with Hinkel. I think we won one nothing, I don’t think we won the league that year, I think it was the European one but it was just important.

“The Samaras one at Parkhead which kept it one each which helped us, it was a vital time of the season. The penalty, obviously, here, against Celtic.

“Bremen, as you say, Prague but at the end of the day it didn’t matter but still, I suppose it goes in your collection.

“There’s loads of different memories for different reasons but, obviously, ones that mean something and made you win things.”

You can tell by the way that he never celebrates after penalty saves that he only sees that sort of contribution as him doing his job and that it is the end result, and the trophies that are won, that matter most.

Hopefully, he gets to bow out and end his Rangers career the way that we would all want, with a few more trophies and his status as a certifiable legend confirmed.
