More than a day later and Giovanni van Bronckhorst remains as Rangers manager. Two points out of nine against St Johnstone, Livingston and St Mirren, on its own, should be enough to see anyone in the Ibrox hotseat sacked, never mind some of our other results this season.

The accounts paint a good picture of our finances going forward so the moon howling claims that we ““can’t afford to” to sack Gio are wide of the mark, however, with a chairman and board potentially selling up in the face of investment from the States, there might well be a financial reason as to why they haven’t pulled the trigger.

If you were looking to pull your money out of a club, why would you invest millions more? The 4th Official claiming to know exactly how much it would take to see the Dutchman removed from his position:

“Money is what is probably stopping Rangers from letting Gio go. If they sack Gio, they would have to pay £3.6million for the Rangers manager. Maybe another £1m for his entire team.

“For the sake of the supporters, it’s time to pay up.

“Otherwise, we run the risk of Rangers being a club which is in a long-term decline. Celtic got lucky with Ange after Neil Lennon. But there was tangible damage done to the Celtic brand after Rangers won the 55.”

We all know from the Pedro Caixinha experience that sacking managers can be an expensive business but, in this instance, it should be seen as cost neutral, especially if we appoint a replacement who isn’t currently at a club.

When Steven Gerrard left for Aston Villa we made more than £4.25m, enough to sack Gio and his team.

There are other issues in terms of recruitment and the state of the squad and, again, it may be that the current board are refusing to act just now in case the – potentially – new major shareholder wants to bring in their own people. It wouldn’t be the first time as seen before with the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Gio professes to love the club, if he does, he should do the right thing and walk away, saving us a fortune in the process.
