Two 4-0 defeats will see any manager come under pressure, never mind a Rangers one, however, the next few weeks will give an indication as to whether or not Giovanni van Bronckhorst has a future as our manager.

There is still a hangover from last season when we blew a lead at the top of the table, winning the Scottish Cup and making the final of the Europa League followed up by qualifying for the Champions League not being accepted as enough of a sign that he can do a job moving forward.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones reckons that the enforced break has come at a good time:

“It is a worrying time for Rangers, there’s no doubt about that.

“But I think they need to take a step back and just hope that van Bronckhorst can fix things himself in the next couple of games.”

We need to reset.

As already covered by Vital Rangers, other than the Union Saint Gilloise performance, we had been ticking along quite nicely, yes, we could have been more expansive but we had been winning games and scoring plenty of goals.

If the Gers gaffer had his way I’m pretty sure that he wouldn’t have chosen Napoli as our first opponents to try and get back on track but it is more simple than that, he will be looking for a response from his players, something that shows they are up for the fight.

Sometimes, you just have to hold your hands up when another team is better than you, but losing simply because players aren’t working hard enough will never be acceptable.
