It’s not the type of incoming transfer deal that Rangers supporters have been waiting on but a further financial return will be secured with Chelsea’s sale of Billy Gilmour to Brighton.

There has been a reluctance at Stamford Bridge to make the deal happen but player persuasion appears to have won the day, as reported below.

A move now makes sense for Gilmour with the clean break offering fresh direction and a new challenge as well as the enticing prospect of working under the impressive Graham Potter.

From a Rangers perspective, they will be pleased with the terms thrashed out with Chelsea back in 2017 when even then, it was clear that Gilmour was destined to make an impact in football.

As has been reported elsewhere, it is understood that Rangers will be due to receive a fee in the region of £1.5 million due to the activation of a 15% clause due to the agreement made with the west London club five years ago.

Previously, Craig Mulholland told The Athletic:

“The deal we got was a significant number at the time and has some more significant add-ons after that, which are a positive for Rangers. It has a really good sell-on so every time he does well with Chelsea or makes his debut for Scotland, for example, there is a further return for Rangers which justifies the investment in the academy.”

It represents more income at Ibrox but in different ciircumstances, the 15% could have been a lot more. Unfortunately, Gilmour’s Chelsea career was finished with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel who just does not rate the Scotland international but hopefully he can now push on with the Seagulls.
