George Edmundson has found himself on the fringes of the Rangers first team this season, mainly due to the form of Leon Balogun but also due to the seven game ban handed out for breaking Covid-19 protocols.

The 23-year old centre-half has shown that he could become a decent defender one day if he eradicates the silly mistakes from his game and his place in the pecking order – with Calvin Bassey showing that he can step inside too – means that the club are willing to listen to loan offers, according to Football Insider.

He has just one start to his name, in the Europa League against Lincoln Red Imps, and even without the disciplinary issue, he probably would have been heading out the door and the report claims that clubs in the English Championship and League One are considering making a move.

Yes, he is young for his position, but he needs to be playing regularly if he is to cut out the positional mistakes that have cost Rangers a few times since he arrived last summer and a six-month loan deal could be perfect for him.

What should we do with Edmundson?

There is, however, the small question of how long Leon Balogun is going to be around for though, the Nigerian international has brought an immediate improvement to the squad in terms of defensive cover and his pace has proven to be an asset against certain teams, he certainly deserves to have the option of an additional year taken up on his contract but he would be blocking both Edmundson and Niko Katic.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave in either capacity over the coming weeks, yes, he has potential, but as we have seen with Balogun, sometimes having quality is more important.
