Rangers will always be on the lookout for new players with rumours frequently circulating from overseas and one former target could be back on the radar if reports in Belgium are to be believed.

Le Soir claimed that there was a large contingent of scouts at the recent Charleroi v Anderlecht game in which the away side won 3-1, and it didn’t take much translating on Google to work out that we were one of the teams in attendance:

“In addition to the presences of Sabri Lamouchi and Adrien Trebel in the stands on Saturday evening in Charleroi, many clubs had delegated a scout for this match won 1-3 by Anderlecht.

“Thus, Saint-Étienne, Ajax, Schalke 04, Everton, Manchester United, Hellas Verone, Dusseldorf, Zulte Waregem, Villarreal, Rennes, Hamburg, Dortmund, Southampton, Lille, Inter, Rangers, Ghent, Leverkusen, Alaves , Alkmaar, Atalanta, Monaco and Genoa were present.”

Now, given the wide range of clubs that were at the game, I doubt that they were all looking at the same player but that probably isn’t what concerns you, “who were we looking at?” is the killer question.

There was one player that started the game who has been linked with a move to Rangers before, Francis Amuzu, a Belgian youth international for Anderlecht who, reportedly, has a £3.6million release clause in his contract.

Who did GvB make his competitive Rangers debut against as a player?

As a winger, the 22-year old would certainly fit the shape and style of play that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is looking to implement and it is a market that he will have been aware of from his time at Feyenoord.

Even if nothing comes from the mission, it is at least encouraging that we are casting our net further afield that League 1 in England and other SPFL clubs, there are bargains to be had out there,  you just need to look hard enough for them.
