The Rangers Former Players Benevolent Club is seeking to raise £10,000 to support Andy Goram for his treatment and care in the near future, as he battles a terrible terminal cancer.

‘The Goalie’ went public on his condition earlier this week, giving full disclosure on his condition and the tragic situation that he faces. In his own inimitable style, the Rangers legend has vowed to give his all in the battle against the illness.

The 90s Ibrox icon confirmed that he had been diagnosed with level 4 oesophageal cancer and further told the illness has spread to his liver, lung and ribs, as carried in several press reports:

“The word ‘inoperable’ hit me hard. I knew I was in for a fight.”

“The specialist said if I take the chemotherapy, I’ve an average of nine months to go – an average. If I don’t take the chemo, I have an average of six.” Goram stated that he dismissed the chemotherapy treatment “after seeing what it did to Miriam”, his ex-wife, who battled cancer in the recent past.

He continued, “It was hellish. Her partner Dale had to carry her up and down the stairs for weeks, but she had a goal because now she’s more or less beat it. My problem is there is no exit door for me to fight for.”

That is sad tragic reality of the cruel disease.

Goram has vowed to live as normal a life as possible for as long as he can, whilst obviously contuning his medication and treatment:

“I’ll be here as long as I possibly can. The only difference is the timebomb ticking away.”
