In what has been a very busy day of business at Ibrox, another change is coming – this time within the backroom staff.

Dr Mark Waller is leaving Glasgow to head back south, to join up with Leicester City and Brendan Rodgers.

Ironically, this comes on a day when Michael Beale has been confirmed as the new head coach of QPR, meaning another move for one of the ‘Gerrard team’, going their own way.

Dr Waller is highly respected in the game, having previously worked with the England underage set-up as well as other clubs. This will mean a further addition given news via Jordan Campbell of The Athletic that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is looking to bring in a new coach to join his set-up at Ibrox.

Balance

Change will always happen eventually and his will also be the case with the Rangers first team squad, as the fans wait for more announcements to come. The news of Connor Goldson’s stay is wonderful and follows Steven Davis’ own extension. With other contract news expected to follow, there also will be departures as well as new faces to arrive.

It is essential to push forward, to add quality whilst getting the balance right in terms of momentum and player trading. Getting that right is the key to propel the team into a fast start, early next season.

The failures of the last campaign, Malmo in particular, remain fresh in the memory but that preparation was also affected by the pandemic and suspensions to key players. What is most important is that lessons are learned to remedy that situation and action taken to give the best possible chance of success.
