After raising over £3million last week, it has been reported that Rangers have issued more ordinary shares valued in the region of £2.2m which will release further cash for the Ibrox club.

The absence of fans has been a huge obstacle this season and yet we have still been able to field one of our strongest squads thanks to the work of, not only, the commercial team increasing our official partnerships and sponsorship deals but also the backing of directors who continue to support their club by digging their hands into their pockets.

Club 1872 have also committed to increase their shareholding which puts us in a stronger position than clubs who are solely reliant on one individual to bail them out, particularly if Covid-19 has affect their own business away from football.

Dave King always dreamed of one day handing over a percentage of his shares to Rangers fans and although the agreement with Club 1872 remains a priority, the fact that the likes of Douglas Parks and John Bennett are at the helm proves that the club is in good hands – over 95% of the shares in the club are held by fans of varying levels of wealth.

For some reason, those of a green and grey persuasion are obsessed with this sort of thing, but all it shows is that we continue to be debt free and are a well run club off the pitch now, and for this reason the likes of King, Parks and Bennett should always be remembered for their role in returning us to our rightful place at the top of Scottish football.
