Rangers may have won the league and been knocked out of Europe but there is still a lot to play for with the Scottish Cup set to resume this weekend.

Former Ibrox favourite, Peter Lovenkrands, who will always be remembered for one of the most memorable finals, has backed Rangers to prioritise the chance of a double over an unbeaten league campaign, as reported by The Daily Record:

“The Scottish Cup is really special and I’m sure the players have been told all about that. The small chance they might get to play in front of fans at Hampden if they reach the final will be another driving factor.

“This group are so professional. They want to win every game, they want to win trophies and this is another chance to do that. They are favourites and looking at what they’ve done this season that’s no surprise.

“But they’ll be wary that it’s also the first chance for Celtic to stop their momentum and dominance of this season.

“Some Rangers fans want to go through the league season unbeaten and that’s fine. But it’s a bit of a sideshow. Far more important is trophies.”

Most fans would ask “why can’t we have both?” but if given a choice, I’m pretty sure that most would choose the Scottish Cup, at the end of the day, this is what players and managers are judged on.

It gives the players something to aim for going forwards and it will help to make sure that the season doesn’t just fizzle out, it would also be a fitting end to a season that has provided so many highs – one more wouldn’t go a miss.
