A sea of red, white and blue as thousands of Rangers supporters back their team with heart and voice.

That is a regular feature but on this particular occasion, 26 years ago today, the backdrop was the vast Stadio Delle Alpi in Turin as Rangers ran the gauntlet against Marcelo Lippi’s fantastic Juventus team of that era, in the Champions League.

As can be seen below, the moment was captured with a flare glowing in the middle tier and in the process, an iconic image was made.

The passion and dedication of the Rangers support continues to this day, with more recent events on and off the pitch inspiring the Bears to follow in the footsteps.

By all accounts, that trip in 1995 was an eventful one of the pitch an it was much the same for the team on the pitch, but for the wrong reasons.

A 4-1 reverse was the outcome for Walter Smith’s men – having lost three goals in the first half an hour of the game.

A masterclass was provided by Juve with the goals coming from Fabrizio Ravenelli (2), Alessandro Del Piero and Antonio Conte.

Richard Gough scored a deflected consolation goal for the Gers to make it 4-1, following a straight red card for Alex Cleland, following a heavy tackle from that man Del Piero, whose class was earlier  underlined with an audacious goal that left Andy Goram helpless.

The reverse fixture at Ibrox was another sore one for Smith’s side in that campaign with the Italians claiming a 0-4 win, as they went all the way in the tournament to beat Ajax on penalties, after a 1-1 draw at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
