Europa League reflection still doesn’t make sense, incredible Gers deliver against the odds

With the dust just about settling, it’s as good a time as any for reflection.

If you were one of the fans who doubted James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and John Lundstram, or wanted Ryan Jack punted because of his injury problems, now would be a good time to sent them a wee note of apology.

Likewise, those that criticised the starting XI – other than Fashion Sakala in for Scott Wright I’m not sure what else Giovanni van Bronckhorst could have done – maybe a nod of appreciation for the manager is required.

It was an incredible performance by an incredible group of players, for perspective, Nathan Patterson was sold for more money than the entire cost of the team that took to the pitch last night, Ross Wilson and his predecessor come in for criticism at times but that is an incredible feat. European football and being able to compete in it is a constant uphill battle for clubs like ours when you consider the vast differences in TV money and sponsorship deals across the continent.

That we got to the final and beat an RB Leipzig team who were semi-finalists in the Champions League only a couple of seasons ago is just ridiculous, that we did it without any strikers or Aaron Ramsey, or Ianis Hagi or Filip Helander is off the scale.

Of course we will still be disappointed when Celtic lift the Scottish Premiership title but, at the start of the season, if you had the choice – with no guarantee of success – you’re lying if you say you aren’t taking the chance to win a major European trophy.

I don’t know about you but I’m certainly “feeling it”.
