Will Southampton’s director of football and the Portuguese Pedro Caixinha be the Rangers dream team?
The Daily Record is reporting that Pedro Caixinha wants to be Rangers boss in time for the Old Firm derby (Sunday March 12th) and would like to be in position as soon as this Monday.
Apparently the Portuguese wants to have the move from Qatar thrashed out over the weekend. Caixinha is currently manager of Quatari side Al-Gharafa.
It is an interesting move, and one hopes some fresh thinking would be brought to Rangers (if not the whole of the Scottish Premiership) with an appointment like this.
What do we know of PC ?
Well, he was a goalkeeper but never hit the heights. An ‘unassuming career as a player’ as Wikipedia puts it.
He is 46 years old, and been involved in management from 1999 and can count Assistant Manager at Greek giants Panathinaikos, top level Protuguese side Nacional as manager and top level Mexican club Santos Laguna as manager on his c.v.
A quote again from the Daily Record from the man himself – ‘I am still the coach of Al-Gharafa and I respect my contractual obligations with the club.’
Looks like we shall find out over the weekend whether PC is the man for the Ibrox hot seat.
Following on from this, the second part of any new Ibrox dream team is being reported in the Daily Mail. Apparently Ross Wilson, currently director of scouting at Southampton, is wanted to make the step up to Director of Fooball at Rangers.
Southampton strike me as an go-ahead modern football club on the up and I could see this appointment working.
It would certainly be an attractive step up to being DoF at one of the world’s greatest clubs.
So, Caixinha and Wilson. The new dream team?
Not long to wait now.
