Graeme Murty could have taken charge of his final Rangers game as it’s been claimed a permanent successor to Mark Warburton is close.
Rangers eventually recorded a 3-2 win over St Johnstone on Wednesday but not before the Saints battle back from two down after Rob Kiernan’s sending off with an injury time winner finally securing the points for the Gers.
Murty has revealed his relief at Rangers’ added time winner against St Johnstone as well as confirming an appeal against Kiernan’s sending off – suspension would rule him out of Celtic – will be made.
Commenting on the Ibrox win Murty was quoted by Sky Sports as saying.
‘The main emotion is relief that a group of players who fully deserved the win managed to come off with three points. It’s an easy stick to beat footballers with to say they don’t care, that they are overpaid and don’t care about the shirt. But our guys’ reaction tonight will reveal that to be a lie and I’m really happy for them. They have taken a bit of a shoeing over the last few weeks. But they are going out of here with a good result in difficult circumstances, so I’d like to pat them on the back.’
As for the sending off of Kiernan – with referee Kevin Clancy deciding his challenge on Graham Cummins warranted a sending off – Murty confirmed an appeal would be made.
The Daily Mail quote him as adding.
‘I think so, yes. We will have to put some more meat on the bones of the appeal when we go to the board but I think it is definitely worth an appeal. As it stands he would miss this Saturday and next Sunday. If we appeal, it would be heard next week, so Rob would be eligible for Saturday.’
