A press cutting from October 2013 shows the extent of the financial mismanagement of Rangers at that time as well as underlining the need for permanent vigilance.

Yes, the good times are back and the vast majority of Rangers fans have had a permanent smile fixed on their faces since ‘Trophy Day’ but it can be appreciated even more, when some reflection is given on the transformation within the club.

A lot of supporters will be solely focussed on events on the pitch, led by Steven Gerrard, ahead of the Champions League charge in the new season and rightly so.

However, given what happened in the period 2012-2015, there is a need to always be wary of what is going on in the boardroom and to hold the custodians to account.

Thankfully today, the board is made up of largely successful Rangers minded people, with some added contributions from other wealthy and ambitious businessmen.

That was certainly not the case back in October 2013 – on the pitch Rangers were plain sailing to promotion from League 1, but stormy waters were brewing behind the scenes.

A glance over the piece above and the names of certain individuals just makes you appreciate the last 12 months even more.

The hurt of the past is over, but we can never forget.

It was a hard fought struggle for the soul of the club, long, enduring, often bitter but just.

The rewards are in front of us all right now.
