Late Gers transfer “blocked”, stiff competition for summer move

Rangers tried up until the last minutes of the transfer window to get John Souttar in early ahead of his summer move, however, with Hearts defender Craig Halkett out for the foreseeable future, Ross Wilson was always going to be up against it.

The Scotland international wasn’t the only centre-half that we tried to secure though with long-term target Danilho Doekhi also targeted, a player we now face stiff competition for, according to a report in the Netherlands, via Football Scotland:

“De Gelderlander reports that contact had been made over a possible January move for the 23-year-old, both by the Ibrox club as well as Napoli and Atalanta.

“However, the Dutch outlet claims that boss Thomas Letsch intervened in order to “block” any move.”

Vitesse are hoping to qualify for European football again and are in a strong position at the moment, losing their skipper and one of their best played wouldn’t have been ideal – Doekhi is as important to them as James Tavernier or Connor Goldson is to us.

It’s clear that we are interested in the towering stopper, that we could help him fulfil his dream of playing in the Champions League is another bonus, we can only hope that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will help him to make the right decision.

It’s an area of the park that will need strengthened regardless of what Connor Goldson decides to do about his future and if Leon Balogun extends his stay at the club.
