Rangers could land £2.25m-rated international on the cheap this summer

Rangers have been linked with a move for Hamburg attacking midfielder Lewis Holtby, as reported by The Daily Record.

The paper say he is preparing to leave German second-tier side Hamburg at the end of the season on a free transfer and Ibrox is a potential destination.

Steven Gerrard’s first-team is crying out for a creative attacking threat in the middle of the park and the £2.25m-rated Holtby would certainly fit the bill considering his history of goals and assists in the German and English top-flights.

The 3-time Germany cap may not quite have the reputation he once did when at Schalke and Tottenham Hotspur but is still a real talent and at 28 years of age has plenty of peak years ahead of him.

His experience of British football is likely to be a key attraction for Gerrard too, who has openly spoke about adding players of a higher quality to his team this summer.

So far this season Holtby has score five goals and assisted six times for Hamburg as they push to make an immediate return to the Bundesliga.

This is certainly an exciting transfer rumour and is one to watch over the coming weeks and months.
