Connor Goldson has every right to wait until the end of the season before deciding where he wants to play his football next season, he is at a key stage of his career and has been at Rangers for nearly four years now.

When he does make his decision though, we will find out the measure of the man because earlier this season he spoke about wanting to stay at Rangers, that he saw his future here but the club had to go to the “next level”, as told to BT Sport:

“I’ve said this a lot of times before. But at the same time I want to see the club go to the next level.

“As I’ve said before, I want the club to win 56, 57 and 58. I don’t want to be remembered just for 55.

“Hopefully it can all get sorted sooner rather than later.”

The latest news is that Championship sides West Brom and Nottingham Forest are said to be leading the chase for his signature but they can’t be the level that Goldson – valued at £7.2million – sees himself playing at for the next few years.

West Brom are fifth and Forest eighth as they both look to gain promotion to the Premier League, they are closer to home seeing as he is a Midlands boy but why would he entertain dropping down a level when he has already hinted that he wants to stay at Rangers if we qualify for the Champions League and cement his legacy by winning more titles?

If he wants to move back home because of his family, I don’t have a problem with that, footballers are human after all, he doesn’t owe us anything, I just think he would do well to heed the warning of the countless number of players who have taken the step down from Rangers and moved back to England and regretted it almost straight away.

Goldson does owe us and big time.

He owes us clarity and be a man of his word.

That he owes us @ least.

He cannot go around saying he wants to stay and not back it up with action.

A years extension would have been deemed an intention from his own words, not ours.

And that would have been met with a pay rise no doubt however, instead, Goldson reneges on his words and doesn’t sign anything which is hypocritical on EVERY aspect of what he said.

Connor is a decent player, he’s had gaffs equal to his goals in tally.

He’s improved via Gerrard n Co and promoted to VC.

Vice captains, which isn’t a thing as much as its a first at Rangers, should be met respectfully as a whole, not a bit part on the pitch.

He should come clean on his intentions and at least give the fans what they deserve, his respect.

The least he could do is come clean about his intention and that would allow the club to move him on for a profit and replacement.

I think he has been honest but he’s seen us not really spending any money on improving the starting XI and become frustrated, bringing GIo in seems to have given him a new lease of life and the offer will still be on the table for him to sign. As long as his form is maintained he’ll leave with my best wishes, personally, I think he’ll stay though.
