New hope for Goldson deal, if condition is met

With it going quiet in terms of potential signings, much of the attention has turned to who could be departing Rangers and the contract situation of Connor Goldson.

The vice-captain has been vocal in his desire to stay at the club but is looking for reassurances that we are progressing in the right direction, Vital Rangers opinion always being that he would sign a new contract if we win the Scottish Premiership title again and qualify for the Champions League group stages.

Now, according to a report in The Daily Express, it looks as if we could be right after the paper claimed that interest from West Brom and Nottingham Forest might not be enough to see him head back down the road:

“Express Sport understands that if Rangers win the title and – with virtual certainty – automatically qualify for the Champions League group phase then Goldson would be open to signing a new deal at Ibrox.

“It would be his one chance to play at the elite level of European football and with close to £35million coming into the coffers, Rangers would be able to offer him a more lucrative contract.”

Goldson has barely missed a minute of training never mind competitive action since signing for Rangers so he should be afforded the luxury of time to make a decision that will affect both him and his young family.

The most important thing is that he doesn’t let the uncertainty surrounding his future affect his performances on the pitch which have, under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, returned to the levels that saw us break records last season – football fans are a fickle bunch, as long as he helps to win us the league, I’m not sure anyone would care where he goes!
