Pre-season will always be more about getting minutes into players legs and expecting players to gradually increase tempo and intensity as match sharpness returns, and that is what we got against Brighton on Saturday, but the good news didn;t end there.

An interview with Connor Goldson on Rangers TV before the game hinted that he intends to stick around for “56, 57 and 58” which was followed by The Daily Record going one step further and claiming that a three-year deal is signed:

“Goldson and his representatives have been locked in discussions for days with Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson .

“The new contract will make Goldson one of the biggest earners in Steven Gerrard ’s squad and bring an end to speculation linking the Englishman with a move back down south.

“The former Brighton man was ever-present in Gers’ historic first title win in a decade but is going into the final year of his Ibrox deal and would have been free to sign a pre-contract in January .

“That saw Rangers running the risk of losing the defender for nothing. The £3.5million signing’s new deal will give Gers a lift before Sunday’s glamour friendly against Spanish giants Real Madrid.”

Never mind Joey Veerman, this has been the saga of the summer, the “will he, won’t he” talk surrounding the vice-captain and whether or not he is going to see out the final year of his contract, extend his contract or be sold so that the club doesn’t potentially lose out on millions by letting a valuable player leave for free.

Will Rangers qualify for the group stages of the Champions League?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The Record is unlikely to have insider information so it may be that they have taken an early punt based on the 28-year old’s interview on RTV, if it is true, it could just be Ross Wilson’s signing of the summer.
