“Nowhere near as good as he thinks he is” – Record journo in bitter Gers star claim

Most journalists are able to hide their allegiances when commenting on the game we love, some choose not to and make it public knowledge who they support, I’m a fan of the latter, it allows for a more open and honest debate.

Some though, simply can’t and near the top of that list is Gordon Parks of The Daily Record who has come out with a belter when speaking about Connor Goldson’s contract situation.

Rather than me explaining it, I’ll let you see for yourself, when asked if Rangers should sell their vice captain, he said:

“Yes. He’s holding out for better on the back of a good season but he’s nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. Decent but no more than that. The bottom line is that if he believes he can get big money elsewhere they should wish him good luck.”

This is from the same man who claimed, in November, with us top of the league and a comfortable Old Firm win in our back pocket, that only three of our players would get into the Celtic XI. Don’t believe me? See for yourself:

“For all of Celtic’s recent struggles, they remain the better side. It’s why Lennon wouldn’t swap any of his top players for a few notables across the other side of the city.

“The likes of Scott Arfield, Ryan Jack, James Tavernier and even a recently more reliable Connor Goldson remain short of what’s required to alter their status as perennial title-chasers rather than winner.”

Celtic “remain the better side”. How did that work out for you Gordon? The same James Tavernier and Connor Goldson that scored more goals than Leigh Griffiths last season and only conceded 13 in the whole league campaign.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

As the saying goes – sometimes it’s better to remain silent and let others think you a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
